Stage Garden Rumba

Where Art and Activism Meets Green

Presented in partnership with Pregones/PRTT, Stage Garden Rumba is an open invitation for all New Yorkers to experience the cultural riches, regional community gardens and green spaces, and vibrant Casitas of the South Bronx! Our 2022 series comes at you in pumped-up hybrid mode, with both in-person performances throughout the summer and new digital episodes for online and public access television broadcast! The series will again feature extraordinary ARTISTS—actors, singers, dancers, writers;  ACTIVISTS with the pulse of local, national, and international struggle and social justice; and COMMUNITY MEMBERS, just like you! Hyperlocal and universal, Stage Garden Rumba brings together voices of joy and revolution to fuel our collective imagination and propel us into a self-determined future.

Stage Garden Rumba - "Digital Edition"

Mazarte Dance Company.

During the height of the Covid-19 Pandemic, Pregones/PRTT and Nos Quedamos postponed in-person attendance of Stage Garden Rumba in-line with mandates from federal and healthcare authorities as a means of safeguarding the community members who attended the ‘al fresco’ event, as well as holding harmless the dozens of artists, activists and behind-the-scenes staff and technicians who make the highly-anticipated celebration a reality.  As result, SGR’s the curatorial team shifted to accommodate the mandates and shifted to recording a limited number of sessions with only the artists and activists without a viewing public and broadcast the sessions in partnership with BronxNet as “Stage Garden Rumba “Digital Edition.” Once authorities began lifting restrictions and opened up public spaces, the event returned to in-person attendance—with all necessary health-conscience precautions, of course. In addition, the events are now a hybrid experience of both live presentations and recorded broadcasts — a model that looks like is here to stay for us (including the 2020 SGR season)! So you can now watch—or re-experience—our past sessions from the comfort of your safe space.
